| The District of North Vancouver have awarded a contract to re-grade and re-surface the lower half of the Cates Park boat launch ramp. As it currently exists, the upper half of the ramp is at a 10.5% grade while the lower half only has a grade of 6%. Upon completion of the work, the lower portion of the ramp will have a 12.5% grade extending down to a toe elevation of 2 meters below Low Water Level, Mean Tide. In order to take advantage of some of the lowest annual midday tides the ramp will be closed and the remedial work will be undertaken between May 25th (the day after the long weekend) to June 14th. As noted, the ramp and parking lot will be closed to all traffic May 25th to June 14th. | |

| In a bold move, the executive of the Vancouver Water Ski Club have changed their name to Vancouver Wake Sports Club, and have rescinded the No Dogs rule. President Rob Millham was quoted as saying "These items were too controversial to take to the general membership, so we decided to just go ahead and get this done." Executive member Jakki Henderson exclaimed "Ach, wi' dogs noo allowed, ye ken whit thes means tae me? Ah can be taegither wi' mah wee Shep agin!" English translation not available at this time. | |

Members of the Vancouver Water Ski Club made a huge showing at Sproat Lake on Aug 1-2 for their annual wakeboard tournament. Ric, Jordan, and Hunter Smith, Scott and Zakk Harman, and Phaedra Harder all competed, as did local Vancouver Aussies Steve Tomic and Kate Saw. They had some podium finishes with others close behind. It's the first year competing for the Smiths, and for Zakk. Look out for these up and coming juniors in the next few years. Congrats to all!

Local barefooter Curt Larsen was caught wakesurfing recently, and if you look closely it almost looks like he was enjoying himself. When asked what could possibly attract him to such a sport, he responded "I'm only here for the beer!"
